The Concepts

Children have a natural curiosity and will sometimes surprise us with their unusual perceptions. They often notice when their world is out of balance or when natural things are not cared for. The early years of exploration should be rich with fun, excitement and wonder, also full of opportunities to extend their own ideas through discovery.

Important concepts and truths can be introduced to young minds in clear and natural ways. All that is seeded then has the potential to grow and interrelate, promoting confidence and inner knowing. This is an attempt to locate some of those seeds of value and importance in the early fertile stages of the children’s life.

The Two Themes

Each box introduces a new way of looking at something through diverse and original games and activities. They are visual, tangible and non competitive. An initial engagement unfolds as the storyline of each is revealed.

The themes of combinations and patterns, movements and cycles, weave throughout these realms of discovery in two complementary ways.

Through the Microscope and the Telescope

Connections run through everything in the natural worlds, an intricate network that is experienced but not always seen. The microscope reveals the extraordinary patterns inside the cellular worlds, while the telescope opens our minds to the configurations within and beyond our solar system. Discovering the harmonies of cycles and forms is an exploration that can be applied to many learning areas.

By both playful and thoughtful decisions those discovering the realms within the boxes experience some of these natural integrations, with many opportunities for creative expression.

Natural Patterns within

This adjacent theme recognises that combinations and patterns also have an internal expression within every person, and in exchanges between people.

The focus here is initially on the children’s conscious awareness of their individual choices. The later activities explore the threads of reason and purpose within more complex interrelationships, progressing to the holding of personal values and thoughtful selections.

Whether via individual choices or combined decisions the journey through these boxes promotes independent thinking and mutual discovery.
